Join the parade

We’re looking for volunteers to take part in our street parade as Desborough Carnival makes its official debut next month.

The event – which we’re organising in conjunction with Wycombe Arts Centre – is set to take place in Desborough Road on Sunday 11th August, and will include live music, food and market stalls and a host free activities and workshops for kids. However, the event’s main focus will be centred around an eye-catching street parade, with people from all across the town taking part in the spectacle – including dancers, community groups, schools and local businesses. Entry to the parade is £1 on the day, with all proceeds going to Oasis Partnership – a local charity.

The procession will begin in Desborough Road at 3pm and will pass through the Eden Shopping centre before returning to Desborough. Organisers hopes carnival goers will sign-up individually or in teams – with a range of prizes on offer for best costume, best mask and best group entry.

HWBIDCo manager Melanie Williams believes the parade will help profile Desborough Road and provide people with an opportunity to get creative with costumes, banners and props. “This event is a great opportunity to highlight the vibrancy of Desborough Road and its many businesses. We really hope the parade will encourage people to sign up and embrace the spirit of carnival. We’ll be offering prizes on the day to those sporting the best costumes, so why not get creative, dress up and join the fun”.

In addition to the carnival and parade, the event will also be used to unveil a large-scale artwork on the façade of a Collins House – a vacant building on the corner of Bridge Street.  The piece – which will feature artwork from several local artists, including Dan Wilson, is part of a joint project by HWBIDCo and Wycombe Arts Centre and will be completed in the lead up to the event.
